Casa Fernandez may be best known for its use of Aganorsa tobaccos. The U.S.-based company created a maduro masterpiece with a Mexican San Andres wrapper draped over Nicaraguan Aganorsa leaves. The result is the Casa Fernandez Aganorsa Leaf Maduro El Supremo (gordo). In a first, I tasted nonpareil candy on the cold draw. The first third extended flavors of coffee, trailed by baker’s cocoa. By the midpoint, dark chocolate held court, inviting occasional notes of wood. By the final third, the chocolate disappeared, leaving a noticeable oak flavor. The uneven burn required a few touch-ups.
