When we read about cigars of the year, we question how cigar makers attain such status. I’ve smoked dozens of such examples, with few living up to the billing. The EP Carrillo Pledge Prequel robusto met all my expectations. Beginning with cedar in the cold draw, the Pledge turned to caramel and nuts in the first third. The depth and richness of flavors intrigued me. Next, double chocolate chip cookies delivered a delicious dessert-like experience. Finally, loads of fall spices hit me before the curtain closed. Ringing in less than $10, EP Carrillo created another affordable masterpiece.
