2019 marked the 10th anniversary of the Illusione Epernay line, and we received the epic Epernay D’Aosta toro to celebrate. And celebrate I did. The Nicaraguan puro features lower priming leaves that give it a silky-smooth mild profile. I drew in freshly toasted bread on the cold draw. A rush of Eastern spices hit my palate from the go, invigorating my senses. The end of the first third added coffee and cream before a transition to churro ice cream. As the creaminess diminished, tobacco notes took hold. The final third turned to a rich woody flavor, interspersed with spices.
