La Gloria Cubana hasn’t been the same since General Cigar bought the brand from Ernesto Perez-Carrillo. The Serie R debuted with larger than average ring gauges and full-bodied flavor. But consistency stills doesn’t match up with the best brands in the industry. Unsavory bitter flavors passed through the cold draw. More bitterness arrived post-flame, followed by plain tobacco. As the midpoint approached, I tasted campfire and wood. At $6.50, the Serie R Maduro’s price is appealing, but there are better options out there.
