Rare are the turn-of-the-century cigars brands that rise from the ashes with descendants at the helm. That is the story with La Palina and owner Bill Paley. The Number 1 is the first in a new series of cigars meant to redefine the brand’s image and flavor profile. Almond milk, a treat, flowed from the cold draw. I tasted spices and floral notes, followed by red wine. As the wine diminished, bread took hold, only to break for earth and coffee. The final third transitioned to a budding cedar flavor that grew into a magnificent finish.
