I felt like I was shucking an ear of corn as I removed the tobacco leaf wrapping of the Leaf by Oscar Sumatra toro. It’s a gimmick, and I’m over it. Maybe it really does keep the cigar fresher – who knows. What I do know is that depth of flavor makes for a satisfying smoke. Some dry grass flavors showed themselves on the cold draw. The first third featured loads of mixed nuts, rich and salty. As the nuts withdrew, leathery notes appeared. And the final third tasted like homemade pie crust, with a bit of butter and toast.
